RIGS are customised piece of art in the world of computers. Its a Personal computer (PC) built for high-performance activities such as gaming, designing, video editing and animations. Some RIGS are made devil to provide high performance while some are precisely customised for specific needs. They are very similar to conventional PCs, with the main difference being the addition of performance-oriented components such as a high-end CPU, high-end graphics card (GPU), Hyper-RAM, High performance Hard drive and Solid State Drives (SSD) and many more. They are not sold as pre-assembled unit but are custom-made based on requirements. As RIGs are made to give high performance they are often expensive, but that can be altered by customising the RIG using economic (not cheap) components to give desired performance and goes easy on your wallet.

Components of RIG: (You can customised this components according to your budget & requirement)
Processor
A high end processor is the heart of a RIG. The more "Gigahertz(GHz)" power and over clocking supported by a processor the better output you get during multitasking activities such as gaming, editing etc. Most of the RIGs in market are built using high end processors from "AMD" and "Intel" depending upon the capacity and prices in current market

PC Coolers
Coolers are required to eliminate waste heat generated by components during multitasking and various graphical processing activities. Also they are required to keep the system working within permissible operating temperature limits to avoid temporary malfunction or permanent failure due to overheating. Coolers are of two types Air coolers (comprised of high speed fans) and water coolers (comprised of water cooling components). Air coolers includes long diameter (i.e 120mm) fans which rotates at high rpm to drive out waste heat whereas water coolers includes radiator which contains liquid (coolant) and copper head plate that fits on the processor to evaporate heat.

Motherboard
Its next essential thing after the processor as it provide Over clocking ability to enhance system's speed and support high amounts of RAM. In order to get best performance from your machine and to avoid hardware related issues its always recommended to match the processor and the socket types of motherboard . Motherboards do come in different types such as MIcro-ATX,mini-ATX and mITX depending upon the processor slot architecture, but most commonly Micro ATX is preferred.

Note: Over clocking is the process of forcing a computer to operate faster than the manufactured clock frequency. So this is only done by expert hands otherwise you will end up with a dead PC.
Memory (RAM)
Of course its Random Access Memory, but in case of RIGs we don't just need RAM we need something known as HYPER-RAM. These are customised RAMs with heat sinks attached to it which evaporate excess heat generated as this are clocked between 1333-2400Mhz for high performance. The more higher clocked RAM you install in the system the better performance you get while multitasking and other system related activities.

SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply)
It is the most essential part as you cannot run your system without it. So better to choose a good and powerful SMPS to provide the boost your system requires during high processing tasks. In case of SMPS one needs to look at various pointers such as capacity (i.e wattage 500, 1000..), the build quality of the unit as it will be providing electricity to your system so you don't want to end up with short circuits inside the system which will cause damages to other components. Also check for compatibility while installing SMPS with older systems (PC) as most of the SMPS get upgrades with the current market trend of higher CPUs and Motherboard. There are various branded companies providing good quality SMPS for your RIGS such as Cooler Master, Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, OCZ, Deepcool..etc.

Storage
As compared to previous generation of Megabytes (1Mb=1024Kb) & Gigabytes (1Gb=1024Mb) storage, today we have gone beyond that up to Terabytes(1Tb=1024Gb) and probably in near future we will reach to Petabyte (1Pb=1024Tb) & Exabyte (1Eb=1024Pb). Such high storage options are beyond imagination but not impossible to achieve. As you have heard about Hard disk (HDD) but now we have something known as the Solid State Drive (SSD) which is 100 times faster than HDD, they don't have physically moving parts like the magnetic disks in HDD which makes SSD more durable than HDD in longer run and also SSD have less power consumption and are noiseless. But all these comes with heavy price tag. A small storage (eg 250Gb) SSD will cost you similar to a 3Tb HDD. Thats why SSD are often used less in home PC. But HDDs are also not outdated they are upgraded in order to match the current generation PCs. Nowadays HDDs comes with high storage up to 4Tb and high RPM speeds up to 7400 rpm. RPM means Revolutions per minute, its measurement for the performance of the HDD. The more the RPM of HDD the better performance it provides. Some of the well known HDD & SSD manufacturers are Seagate, Western Digital (WD), Transcend, ADATA, Samsung and Sandisk.

Optical Drives (CD ROM)
Even though we consider its generation of USB, we still have optical drives in use. In fact the optical drives are upgraded to USB controlled Optical drives from the older IDE controlled Optical drives. These make the optical drives more performance oriented as it is USB controlled which gives it better connectivity with system as compared to IDE ones. Also in market we get Blu-Ray optical drives which read/write high amount of data with blazing speed. Some of the companies pioneered in manufacturing optical drives are LG, Samsung, HP, ASUS etc.

GPU (Graphic Processing Unit / Graphics Card / Video Card)
GPU are vital add ons which provides the needed graphical boost to your system. As some motherboards and even new generation processors (i.e APUs) comes with inbuilt GPU memory, having a dedicated external GPU card makes your system stand out from the crowd. Graphics card is somewhat similar to a small piece of circuit which is installed in PCI slots of the motherboard. Graphic card provides graphics/ video memory which is utilised during graphical activities such as gaming, video editing etc. They are widely installed in systems which are used in Gaming industries, Designing studios, Architectures & Engineering and many more. As these are performance related components they are expensive as you go for a high capacity graphics card. Some of the well known GPU manufacturers includes Nvidia, ASUS, AMD, Sparkle, Sapphire, EVGA Cards etc.

This was the internal overview of a RIG, but to make them a piece of art they are also customised externally which enhances their look.
Cabinets
After all the internal modifications done to your system to convert it into a RIG you need them to put inside a case or cabinet which uniquely describe their beauty. Cabinets are designed according to different type of motherboards (i.e ATX, MicroATX) so make sure you buy the appropriate casing for your system. Some of the modern cabinets comes in various colors and have inbuilt LED lightings which gives color blazing effect. Some cabinets comes with pre-designed panels to install the water / Air cooling system. There are lots of brands in market such as Antec, Cooler Master, Circle, Corsair which provides customised cabinets (referred as Towers - Mid Towers & Full Towers) depending upon your RIG specifications.
Different types of keyboard and mouse are used with RIGS. If you are gamer then you have various options such as gaming keyboard-mouse and wireless keyboard-mouse. If you are designer then you have option of Touch Input Pens to directly draw on the monitor or some pen inputs comes with designer pads. Also there are other plug-play devices such as Game Steerings for Car Racing games and gaming joysticks
Output Device/ Monitor
Its not mandatory that RIG should have big displays but if you have a powerful machine which is capable of giving you High Definition graphical output then why settled for less. There are various brands in market which manufactures Full HD LED monitors in various sizes that are capable of giving you best display output with less power consumption. Some are the brands includes Acer, Asus, Samsung, Viewsonic, LG etc.

After reading this article you will have an idea about the various components of PC which you get in the market and also you can now decide whether to build a RIG for yourself or settle down for a conventional PC which needs to upgrade every generation as they have less room for customisation.
